Dear Basketball

Dear Basketball,

It is hard to believe I fell in love with you at the age of 36. I have always played growing up, but not until recently have I realized how much I love you Basketball. My adoration for you outweigh my few dislikes.
To share a few things I love about you will be easy. First, I crave the rush I get when my hands project your round leather sphere into interlaced strings of nylon. Your white nylon strings are bulwarked by an orange circular iron rod hoisted 10 feet high. Your small circular hoop makes scoring difficult, and a thrill when executed right. Also the opposing team member’s defense, make scoring points a pleasure, every time!
Second, the exhilarating exercise you provide me with. Carbs are burned as I run from one end of the court to the other, back and forth, sweating profusely longing for your touch. Without the longing to hold you in my hands, I would not be able to burn calories effortlessly. I have tried to burn calories without your touch and it is not the same. No workout compares to passing your leather sphere, and skillfully shooting you while stopping at a dead sprint. Not to mention the synergy I feel with my teammates as we all benefit from wielding you dexterously to each other and scoring against the opposing team.
There are a few things I dislike about our relationship; greedy teammates, and not being able to find a pick up game. I try to be the best team player when sharing your orb. However, there are some who do not understand the importance of ball circulation when they have you. The worst feeling is trying to find a game to play and your nowhere to be found. I go from park to park, court to court, hoping to compete for you’re companionship and embrace, but my efforts are in vain when your nowhere to be found.
To summarize my love for you Basketball, as long as I have legs to run and shoes to protect my feet, I will forever be your faithful player. I would say even barefooted I would work for your clinch. You allow me to escape and feel like a professional athlete when I am on and like a big looser when I am off. I love you Basketball!
Love,

JLA
